Another Great Review for "IT'S ALL BRETT'S FAULT"

A UK listener (known as "Norma" on Goodreads) has posted this fabulous 5-star review of "IT'S ALL BRETT'S FAULT" -- as Brett's fame continues to spread far & wide !!!

 (Brett: "That's a good thing, ain't it?")

Format : Audiobook )
"More than one way to skin a canary."
It's hot outside and Brett is pumping iron. Modest and retiring as always, at 37 he believes he's never looked better, even hotter than the weather outside. But he's still a long way from his goal of Easy Street by the time he's 40. In fact, he's broke. And still hurting after 'she who cannot be named.'

So when offered a job as protection for a man who claims that someone wants to murder him which pays five thousand dollars for a couple of weeks work, Brett goes along with the pushy Marcus Wade, little knowing that he might just have met another unscrupulous bastard like himself.

The story is, as always, ramblingly related by Brett (and his alter ego, Travis Henry Carter) himself. Not a book for the uptight P.C. crowd. In fact, Brett is not someone anyone would ever want to really meet, but experienced through the pages of David D.D'Aguanno's books, he is rampant, if you get my drift. And Travis Henry Carter's narration is superb, becoming the vain, obnoxious moustachioed and muscled monster so seductive to the ladies, whilst at the same time voicing everyone else be they male or female, very distinctively. The combination of author and narrator makes the Brett Cornell stories absolutely unmissable.

Do I recommend it? "Do ducks quack and mooses moo?" Absolutely.

"BRETT GETS HAMMERED" - Released on May 4 as an Audiobook !!

It hasn't even been a full month since the last Brett book ("Brett Enters the Square Circle") was released in audiobook format -- & now it's time for all you Brett Fans (wherever you may be) to take the plunge once again into Brett's World via "BRETT GETS HAMMERED" (otherwise known as Brett #6).

And no, this isn't the one in which Brett helps Michelangelo paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Neither is it the one in which Brett takes a vow of celibacy and enters the Monastery of Total Losers.

But it IS the one in which Brett gets hammered, smashed, polluted, i.e. totally inebriated for -- uh -- a few chapters, anyway.

Will Brett get his greedy mitts on a portion of the Rankin inheritance?

Will Brett get his greedy mitts on portions of Tammy Rankin's anatomy?

Even more importantly, will the Patriots make the play-offs next year? ? ? ?

So, IOW, here's your chance to once again get up-close & personal with the Brett-Meister himself as narrator Travis Henry Carter one more time becomes The Voice of Brett --

"BRETT ENTERS THE SQUARE CIRCLE" - Funny, Naughty, & Absolutely Unmissable !!

A big THANK-YOU to Norma from the UK for being a loyal Brett fan and, most recently, for the superb review she posted on Goodreads for "BRETT ENTERS THE SQUARE CIRCLE" (audiobook version) --

"A few rotten tomatoes in every bushel of cucumbers."
Life is catching up with Brett. His secretary has left him, although the relationship with ever faithful Ginger continues to be on-off, his glorious beauty has been slightly disfigured by the missing ear and even his title as most Unscrupulous Bastard is being challenged by Big Bull. He even finds himself actively involved in working in his Private Eye occupation, looking for a missing girl at the same time as he tries to prepare for a boxing match with bully cop, Gil Bailey - and, worst of all, someone is actually sorry for him.

The wonderful Travis Henry Carter is back, taking on the persona of Brett as he flawlessly reads the text with all of the charismatic charm and wrongly expressed quotations of our hero. Just listening to him read gives a tingle of delight. And all of the other protagonists have their very distinctive voices, too, from sexy Melany Foster to Sergeant Joe Raff, police officer and boxing coach. A superb performance, as always.

This is the fifth book in the gloriously funny series about the self opinionated, insufferably egotistical private eye, Brett Cornell, self styled unscrupulous bastard, girl magnet and nobody's friend. Not someone to ever hope to meet in real life but between the covers of a book, superb. Both dialogue and action are hilarious, as always. But this book takes a darker turn and a new Brett tentatively begins to peep out, if you know what I mean, Jelly Bean.

It's funny, it's naughty and absolutely unmissable.

Coming soon: "BRETT GETS HAMMERED" (audiobook) - narrated once again by Travis Henry Carter!

5-STAR REVIEW calls "BRETT ENTERS THE SQUARE CIRCLE" "the best one so far!"

Awesome 5-star review for "BRETT ENTERS THE SQUARE CIRCLE" (audiobook)

The best one so far!

This had to be my favorite Brett Cornell Mysteries book so far! This story is a little darker than the previous books, but the humor and wit from David D'Aguanno is still there!

I loved everything about this book. It was funny, it had plenty of mystery, and we got to see another side of Brett that I think the listener will really enjoy.

The narration is perfect, and I just love listening to Brett! I hope this is the start to a deeper side of Brett because I really enjoyed the darker tones of the story as well as more emotions coming from Brett. Great story, great narrating, great overall!

Thanks to a person who's obviously a loyal fan of the Brett-Meister !!!

Coming soon: The audiobook version of "BRETT GETS HAMMERED" - narrated, once again, by Travis Henry Carter (a.k.a. "The Voice of Brett")

PRAISE for "BRETT ALWAYS WINS" (Audiobook)

Another terrific review has just been posted (5 Stars all across the board: story - performance - over-all)

"The Most Awesome Book Ever"

I've listened to hundreds if not thousands of Audiobooks, and none of them can compare when it comes to how much I enjoyed this one.

The author couldn't have chosen a better narrator to have done such a great job ( perfection ).

This book is pure fun. There is no other way to describe it ! I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series which I've noticed that even though it's a series, each book is a stand alone book so there is no need to read them in order, which is a big plus.

Just one thing, if you do get this book get ready for laughter and lack of sleep plus an addiction for the series ( a federal warning )

 Brett is an addictive substance!

Seriously there is absolutely nothing bad that I can say here only maybe that five stars are not enough.

Get this book you'll love every moment of it !

               Guaranteed !!!!

And no, I didn't write it myself -- and no, a friend or relative didn't write it either. The reviewer (I believe) is a man from Israel.

Israel !! -- Brett has fans FROM ALL OVER THE GLOBE !!!!

5-STARS for "BRETT ALWAYS WINS" (audiobook format)

A 5-Star Review for "BRETT ALWAYS WINS" - from one of Brett's biggest fans in the UK!

Norma (who has already listened to the 1st 2 Brett audiobooks) has posted her 5-star review of Brett #3 which she feels is the BEST of the 3 (so far) --

This is what she has to say about it -- & about narrator Travis Henry Carter who, once again, receives much praise in bringing good old Brett to life !!!
...

"The Garden of Egypt."

Work is slow for Birchwood P.I. Brett Cornell. Could be because of the reputation of blue-eyed, blonde-moustachioed self-styled Adonis' reputation as an unscrupulous bastard, a reputation he was proud to embrace. So when a call comes through to his office from a woman introducing herself as Paula Marshall, as if he should know the name, asking for help and saying that they were trying to kill her before the line went dead, he decides it really was not his problem. Until, that is, two wanna-be heavies stop him on the street and beat him up - a message, they tell him, from Mr.Walter Marshall. No one does that to Brett Cornell. Time to track down this Marshall person, presumably the husband of his telephone caller.

Brett is 36, rude, lewd and uncouth and totally full of himself, self-congratulatory and constantly misquoting pieces of home philosophy.. He is the epitome of the perfect non-pc man. But still he seems to charm the ladies into his enthusiastic arms and bed. He even has a (sometimes) live-in girlfriend, Ginger, to whom he is totally faithful, well, apart from three or four (or is that 34? - he's a private eye, not a mathematician) times over the past month or so. He's not someone the reader would ever want to meet in life - but in a book? He's a hoot!

Brett Always Wins is the third book following his antics, each stand alone, and, for this reader, the best so far. Written in the first person, Brett is brilliantly portrayed by narrator Travis Henry Carter, who captures all the nuances of his jubilant, comic character with accent, intonation, pacing and expression. Additionally, every other protagonist is given their own appropriate and distinctive voicings, both male and female. An excellent performance throughout which enhances for the listener the fun and humour of this outrageous neanderthal of a man.

Certainly not a book I would recommend to anyone easily shocked. But for pig-headed exuberance, self-satisfied humour and racy, out of order comments, plus very colourful characters all wrapped up in a nice, simple little mystery, this book should not be missed. But if you do, to quote Brett himself, "It's not my problem."

BEST REVIEW EVER for a BRETT AUDIOBOOK

This review for the audiobook version of "Brett Aerobicizes" just came in, written by a woman who had previously reviewed the 1st book in the series ("Poolside with Brett") --

Private Investigator Brett Cornell is back and once again on the hot-seat. A man with whom he had a very public punch-up is found dead, and the bullet that killed him came from Brett’s gun. Can he find out who is setting him up before he’s locked up for good?

Brett Aerobicizes is the second book in the Brett Cornell series.

Travis Henry Carter is now Brett to me. There simply is no other. Brett’s swagger pours through a cocky and ever so slightly douchey tone without pretense and wholly invested in delusion. If you ask Brett he is the hottest thing to walk out of the whole state of Rhode Island. His conviction of greatness is done with a deft hand leaving the audience in on the joke that Brett is perhaps not the most reliable of reporters while his internal life is solid gold.  D’Aguanno shared with me that he hired Carter because he so perfectly encapsulated Brett’s “wise guy persona” and I have to say, I cannot remember listening to an audiobook with a narrator more suited to his character. Carter’s background characters are distinct, though none match the mastery of his Brett and, really, none could be expected to do so.

This review of Brett Aerobicizes is not going to be all a Carter love-fest, the story is actually pretty solidly written. The mystery story is well plotted and the background characters incorporated with a definition not always seen in the genre. D’Aguanno followed some unexpected patterns and the dialogue is top notch. There’s a chemistry between Brett and the characters in the world not as apparent in the previous book. He still has disdain for some people and attraction to others, but his interaction with Marilyn at the start of the novel is a good example. He notices everything about her. Of course, she’s attractive so he would, but there’s almost a romance to his appreciation of her as a sexual object. These are the times when you can be sure that Brett has a soul. More than the first novel, Brett notices everything, and his observations are frequently downright hilarious. As a sidenote, Heineken should be paying D’Aguanno  a royalty.

D’Aguanno gives us a depth to the character hinted at but not seen in the first book of the series. There is a natural development. Brett in Brett Aerobicizes is more a real person. He’s not someone you want to meet in person (he still considers belching an art form and rudeness a form of communication and a suitable response to someone who displeases him) but he’s pretty entertaining to read and hope (and know) that he’ll get knocked down a peg from time to time. Brett could easily become a sexist, sex obsessed, mustache-wearing 80s stereotype, but D’Aguanno draws him with a code to which he is surprisingly loyal and makes him a likeable  obnoxious person much in the style of Stuart Woods’ character, Stone Barrington. Stone loves women, a lot of women. He’s like fly paper with faulty adhesive as he catches the women but they always get away. Brett is perhaps not as irresistible as he thinks himself to be, but he certainly has his very specific audience charm. Let me take this opportunity to state that if you are offended by overt sexism and can’t find the humor in stupidity, you will hate Brett. Let me encourage you, try the sample. I think that Brett might win you over.

I said it in the previous review and will say it again: if you don’t buy the audiobook of Brett Aerobicizes , you’re missing out. Pick it up today. You won’t be disappointed….and you may even be inspired to stay a little longer on that treadmill or elliptical.

BRETT HAS A SOUL? ? ? -- An unscrupulous bastard with a soul ? ? ? -- Hmmm, I'll have to give that one some thought!

A big THANK-YOU to Tammy from Canada who wrote that review!

BRETT HAS A NEW FAN !!

Sounds like Brett's got himself a new fan here, in this new review for "BRETT AEROBICIZES" (the audiobook) --

“ The unscrupulous bastard strikes again! ”

This is the 2nd book in the Brett Cornell Mysteries, and if you enjoyed the 1st one, you should enjoy this one just as much! It had a few reoccurring characters from the first book and more surprises and twists!
...
Travis Henry Carter is such a perfect narrator for this series and I feel like he really makes the character come to life.

I know that there will be some people who will be turned off by Brett's demeanor and how he goes about treating women. I see the story almost as if I'm at a bar and some guy thinks he's a hotshot and is telling me his story. That guy would be Brett and I would just think he's full of himself and to not take him so seriously. I don't in any way think the author is like the character he writes.

Brett Aerobicizes is a funny mystery book and I can't wait to read the next in the series!

At last! A reviewer who actually realizes that Brett is a fictional character, not to be taken seriously.

In any case, it's great to discover that Brett has some loyal fans out there.

Not bad for a self-proclaimed unscrupulous bastard, don't you think?

POOLSIDE WITH BRETT: Audiobook Review

This question-and-answer review appears on the Audible page for the recent audiobook version of POOLSIDE WITH BRETT, as narrated by Travis Henry Carter

Poolside with Brett is an outstanding listen....

Would you consider the audio edition of Poolside with Brett to be better than the print version?

I've only listened, but the voice acting was spectacular.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the place in time shout outs and apparent homage to classic mystery writers of a bygone era.

Have you listened to any of Travis Henry Carter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard this narrator before but thought he was well suited for Poolside with Brett

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

While I would have liked to have listened to the book in one sitting it was ideal for workouts and varied tasks though some of the rougher moments made it inappropriate for the school commute.

Any additional comments?

Poolside with Brett was well written and well voiced. It is a bit blue at moments and somewhat a product of its time but with suspension of disbelief an acceptance that Brett is a douchewaffle who is a bit delusional about the legendary status of his man-beastliness, it's a very good listen.
